Apply Adjustment Layers 2.0 Script for Photoshop

File

This script applies adjustment layers and special blend mode (e.g. overlay) layers to the appropriate layers below them in a Photoshop file. You can apply all adjustment & blend mode layers automatically, or only apply selected layers. This can be particularly useful when preparing paintings for animation, or just trying to simplify your work mid-painting.

The script fully respects nested layer groups, clipping masks, and layer masks. If you have adjustment and blend mode layers that are clipping masks, it will correctly apply those layers only to other layers within the clipping stack.

Results aren't always 1:1 and can vary depending on selected options and file complexity! When the script finishes, use UNDO/REDO to compare before and after.

Note: If you don't want to pay for this, or want to try before you buy, it's free on my Gumroad still.

HOW TO USE:

In Photoshop, go to File > Scripts > Browse and navigate to this script file. (If you only want to apply specific layers, select those layers in Photoshop first, then run the script and choose "Selected Layers Only" in the popup window.)

If you want to speed this up, you can copy this script file to [Photoshop Installation Directory]/Presets/Scripts and it will show up in the File > Scripts menu once you restart Photoshop.

Release Notes

2.0 is a big update for this script that should make it more versatile all-around. Here's what's new:

  • You can now apply special blend mode (e.g. overlay) layers in addition to adjustment layers.
  • New option to automatically apply ALL adjustment and special blend mode layers at once. (While 1:1 visual results aren't always possible due to... math... applying all of these types of layers down into your layer stack at the same time is the most likely way to achieve 1:1 or near-1:1 results.)
  • Adjustment and blend mode layers that are also clipping masks are now correctly applied only to other layers within their clipping stack (previously they were applied to everything below them.)
  • Fixed bugs that could cause clipping masks to become undone and some issues with locked layer groups.

The 1.01 script is still included in the Gumroad download here just in case anything has stopped working for you in the new 2.0 script. If you do encounter any issues running the new script vs. the old script please let me know!

Cheers,

Mike
